Poetry Time!
So, I was sending an email just a moment ago, and decided to be all clever about it by putting my one-word response in the subject line and putting some poetry in the text. It was for Jenn From IT, she would appreciate something like that. Anyway, I ended up a plagiarist.com perusing again the works of Billy Collins. Of course, I went with "Litany", because I am nothing if not predictable and it's among my favorite poems ever. But it's been a while since I hung with Collins, so I've been reaquainting myself. I heard him read "I Go Back To The House For A Book" at the National Book Festival a few years ago and it was fantastic. Wry, amusing, oddly philosophical. Most of a person's usual exposure to poetry is from school where the humor is rarely present and invariably sucked out when it is there, so Collins is like a breath of fresh air. Breathe deep, my friends:
"Another Reason Why I Don't Keep A Gun In The House"
"Forgetfulness"
"Reading An Anthology of Chinese Poems Of The Sung Dynasty, I Pause To Admire The Length And Clarity Of Their Titles"
And, just because you never really need a reason for Christina Rossetti, "Goblin Market".
