Fascinating and Strange
I have a weird fascination with construction equipment. You know that big monster-looking thing that on one end eats up a road surface and spit gravel chunks out the other end? I could watch that thing all day. Anyway, right now outside my office, they are tearing up and re-applying Washington Boulevard. They look like giant mechanical insects.
There's this one . . . thing, it's like the world's toughest patty-cake machine. They are filling a trench with sand and this thing comes with a big long twisty arm. At the end of the arm is a flat plate that tamps down the sand, compacting it. This is a very loud process. Just ahead it is the digger thingy, the big shovel--you know what I mean. Anyway, it's dumping in the dirt, the patty-cake machine tamps it down. But the big shovel machine? Purple. Kind of a light purple. Okay, there's only one way to say this: It's Pride March Purple. This is the gayest piece of construction equipment ever.
You know, in case you were wondering what I was doing at work today.
